The icon disappeared from my menu bar

macOS hides menu bar items when space runs out (common on MacBooks with the notch). Close other menu bar apps or use a menu bar manager. Quitting and reopening 20 20 20 re-adds the icon.

Reminders never appear

Reminders only fire after continuous active use. Check the interval in Settings and that reminders are not paused. Display sleep or five minutes of idle time resets the count by design.

“Open at start-up” won’t stay on

macOS requires approval for login items. Open System Settings › General › Login Items and allow 20 20 20.

Can I change the 20-second break length?

Not yet — the 20 seconds is the rule the app is built around. Tell us if you want this.

Can I turn off the sound?

Yes. Untick “Play sound when break ends” in Settings. It is the only sound the app makes, and it plays once when your 20-second break finishes.

Does it work with multiple displays or Spaces?

Yes. The popover opens on the display that holds the menu bar icon and shows over full-screen apps.

How do I uninstall?

Quit the app, then drag it from Applications to the Bin. It stores your settings (interval, sound and menu bar countdown) in ~/Library/Preferences/com.alexfrangiamore.twentytwentytwenty.plist.

What is the 20-20-20 rule?

Every 20 minutes, look at something about 20 feet (6 metres) away for 20 seconds. Optometrists recommend it to reduce digital eye strain.

Does it track what I do?

No. The app only reads the time since your last keyboard or mouse input, on-device, to know whether you are actively using the Mac. Nothing leaves your computer.
